HeartRate Monster Edition Signups!
HeartRate is a short-term dating game.
These are signups for a monsterfucker edition, running for 4 weeks, from July 12 (this Friday!!) through August 8.
If there are not at least 20 people signed up by 6pm PST Thursday, the game will not run. The mechanics require a minimum number of people to work well. Assuming we hit that minimum, stragglers can still sign up until gamestart the next day. There is no maximum.

Please only refer people you have played with personally, who you are confident can be chill, communicate, and keep good IC/OOC boundaries in this sort of game. You are vouching for them! You can refer as many people as you want as long as you're willing to recommend them. If you are looking for a referral, find someone you know and reach out to them privately, and please respect it if they say no.
Canon characters, original characters, and canon AUs are all allowed. No CRAU/previous game histories. No doubles of the same character. In borderline cases where the same character is significantly different in different media/routes/universes/etc, talk to each other, and if both players agree they're up for it then go for it. There are no age or other restrictions on characters, but choose in good faith someone who is going to be fun going on dates with at least some of the other people in the game.
This is a short-term, high-intensity game centered around romantic competition. Everyone has different reactions and different comfort levels, and you know yourself and your character best, so take a moment to think about whether it feels right. You can't control other people's reactions to your character, so if you think whether your character is popular will affect whether you have fun, consider whether it's the right character/game for you.

"Monster" is defined as something that is less than half human (by some measurement), and is dangerous, frightening, or offputting in some way. No monsters that are just sexy humans with accessories. Players are encouraged to find a monster PB for at least a few icons to help capture the visual aspects in play, but this is not required. Please have some kind of reference image, though.

Monster choice: psychic squid turtle. Originally about the length of a football field, now about the size of a bull elephant. Can breathe out of water but will need a soaking tub and maybe a rolly cart to get around
Character info millennia-old psychic leviathan. Used to be part of a herd, but then she was accidentally locked in a marine research lab at the bottom of a volcano for 2600 years.
She’s both ancient and wise but also kind of childlike. She talks about all social interactions terms of “play” and “games”. If someone is able to communicate with her, she’s willing to consider them a friend.
Hopes and dreams (optional): She’s coming out of her enclosure and she’s doin just fine!!! I like the idea of playing someone very, very alien, and possessing ??? who knows what??? idea of courtship wanting to participate in the game just because it sounds interesting.

Character info, hopes and dreams (optional): Katherine is a character from a puzzle game with a "relationships as horror" theme. She's a career woman struggling with the societal pressures to get married as a woman in her 30s, so she can act a bit overbearing, but she is caring under all of the no-nonsense attitude. Slightly manipulative. I want to put her into a situation that will challenge her beliefs while in pursuit of her true love.

Character canon: I Was A Teenage Exocolonist
Monster choice: I'd just pick one of the many alien monsters from her canon to fuse her with - most of them blur the lines between animal and plant.
Character info, hopes and dreams (optional): Marz is a young adult (around 18-19 depending on the year I take her from) who grew up on a spaceship and subsequently a colony on an alien planet, basically a hippie cult stole a spaceship to leave Earth society behind and form a society with their own rules and she was one of the children born on that ship. She's basically a Popular Girl archetype... she loves Winning, luxury goods and pop culture, but the latter two are in short supply in the colony so she often complains of boredom and laments what was left behind on earth. Although Marz loves casual dating, she's not one to settle down for long, so she is going to be more interested in the competitive aspects than finding her soulmate. Still, she's poly and all for flirting with anyone she's attracted to. Also, she has a genetic augment that makes her incapable of feeling shame! That would be interesting in a place like this.

danganronpa v3: spoilers here like crazy.

Character name: Tsumugi Shirogane
Character canon: Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony (An AU where Shuuichi betrays the others at the final trial to work together with Tsumugi. He deceives them with a false explanation that Kaede is the mastermind and the girl killed in the first trial was Kaede's identical twin sister. Shuuichi wins the killing game as the blackened, Tsumugi wins as the real mastermind, and the rest are killed. Together, Tsumugi and Shuuichi leave the academy... with Tsumugi planning to invite him to write the next season.)
Monster choice: Uncanny valley porcelain doll marionette with ball joints. When she moves, phantom strings 'pull' her hollow doll joints as if she were being manipulated by an unseen puppet master. (So, like, there's a hollow hole in each joint on her hand and then further each joint on each individual finger. When she moves one of her fingers individually, a phantom barely-visible, don't-know-where-it-came-from, string tugs the finger joint. Even if Tsumugi is controlling her own actions, it looks like some outside force is directing her movements. She herself can 'attach' a phantom string to a person or thing (usually the neck for a human or humanoid). If she successfully attaches it, it's as if the target has turned into a marionette itself and Tsumugi can now manipulate them by moving her hands with a control-bar that appears in her hands. --In ideal circumstances, at least.
Her 'innards' are also made up of mechanical cogs and springs. Human-like aesthetics are just aesthetics. (Instead of teeth, a solid painted white panel of porcelain carved to look like teeth.) She's clearly not organic nor has organic needs. ...though some parts sure are soft and human-like.
(She may have a winding key sticking out of somewhere as well. Her back or, disturbingly, her head. She may need to 'wind' herself once in a while too. Aren't set in stone for these ideas.)

She wants more inspiration for the next danganronpa from the other characters she meets. Including thinking of what 'ultimate' talent they would have if they were a character on the show. Finally, to relax and plan the next season... season Danganronpa 54: SP (subtitle pending), has to be even better than 53!

Appreciates all forms of life, and especially into nature - just really likes The Little Things and is satisfied with that, but to others this means she can be pretty odd and distracted about her interests.

She is headstrong and determined and a touch sassy. Obviously she’s on the younger end of things so if the character pool slants too much older, she’s probably less viable. I just think she’s neat.
